Llyn Peris: The Dramatic Lake at the Foot of Snowdon

Llyn Peris is a striking glacial lake located at the base of the Llanberis Pass, directly adjacent to the famous village of Llanberis. Nestled between rugged mountains and the historic remnants of the slate industry, Llyn Peris offers a captivating combination of natural beauty and industrial heritage. Its deep, dark waters and the towering peaks surrounding it make it one of Snowdonia’s most atmospheric spots.

Where Industry Meets Wilderness in the Heart of Snowdonia

Llyn Peris is flanked by steep slate-strewn slopes, with Snowdon and Elidir Fawr rising dramatically above. The lake itself is around 1.8 km long and was once much smaller before being enlarged as a reservoir for the Dinorwig Hydroelectric Power Station. The juxtaposition of natural wilderness and industrial remnants gives Llyn Peris a unique, almost haunting character. Despite its industrial use, the lake remains a scenic spot, popular for walking, photography, and exploring the rich history of the area.
